An additional benefit is that the site is now more accessible to visitors with disabilities.<\/p><\/blockquote><p class=\"source\"><cite>Michael Quinion<\/cite>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldwidewords.org\/\"><abbr title=\"WWW\"><cite>World Wide Words<\/cite><\/abbr><\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>In other words, WWW is now&#8211;<a title=\"W3&#8239;C Validator\" href=\"http:\/\/validator.w3.org\/check?uri=http:\/\/www.quinion.com\/words\/index.htm\">almost<\/a>&#8211;a valid <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/xhtml1\/\">XHTML 1.0 Transitional<\/a> site.  (Those darned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/sgml\/entities.html\">character entity references<\/a> in URLs&#8230; happens to <a title=\"Caveat Lector: RS&#8239;S and OEBPS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yarinareth.net\/caveatlector\/archive\/week_2003_01_19.html#e001238\">the best of us<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n<p><a title=\"Dive Into Mark: A warning to others\" href=\"http:\/\/diveintomark.org\/archives\/2002\/11\/21\/a_warning_to_others.html\">Mark Pilgrim<\/a> and <a title=\"Hixie's Natural Log: Markup Challenge\" href=\"http:\/\/ln.hixie.ch\/?start=1037595583&amp;count=1\">Ian Hickson<\/a> might not be overjoyed.  There&#8217;s lots of semantic information in the classes, what appears (to me, at least) to be appropriate use of the <code>meta<\/code> element, and even <a href=\"http:\/\/dublincore.org\/\"><cite>Dublin Core<\/cite><\/a> metadata; he even uses <q>curly apostrophes<\/q>.  However, there are two things I think Mark and Ian would recommend: respectively, <a title=\"Dive Into Mark: Pushing the envelope\" href=\"http:\/\/diveintomark.org\/archives\/2002\/12\/27\/pushing_the_envelope.html\">using the <code>cite<\/code> tag<\/a> to mark up <a title=\"Jonathan Delacour: The Lord of the Email\" href=\"http:\/\/weblog.delacour.net\/archives\/000766.html\">words and phrases quoted for themselves<\/a> (particularly instead of <code>&lt;em class=\"citedform\"&gt;<\/code>), and using heading tags (<code>h1<\/code>, <code>h2<\/code>, etc.) in place of structures like <code>&lt;p class=\"heading\"&gt;<\/code> and <code>&lt;p class=\"sectiontag\" style=\"margin-top:0.5em\"&gt;<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n<p>But you know what?  (That&#8217;s <cite>you<\/cite> as in <a href=\"\/blog\/archives\/2003\/01\/23\/synchronicity.html#comment126\"><cite>all y&#8217;all<\/cite><\/a>, of course.)  It&#8217;s still a cool site, and I go back again and again.
