{"id":223,"date":"2003-04-08T01:46:47-04:00","date_gmt":"2003-04-08T09:46:47+00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/wordpress\/?p=223"},"modified":"2003-04-08T01:46:47-04:00","modified_gmt":"2003-04-08T09:46:47+00:00","slug":"spring-thaw-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/2003\/04\/08\/spring-thaw-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring thaw, part&nbsp;2"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'><p>To offset the final (I hope) blast of winter in southwestern Ontario, here are various highlights (and lowlights) from last week&#8217;s concertgoing, <a href=\"\/blog\/archives\/2003\/03\/31\/spring_thaw.html\">as promised<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h4>The Good<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>There&#8217;s a reason I go to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sirens3.com\/\"><cite>Sirens<\/cite><\/a> so often, and it&#8217;s not simply because they perform at venues located within two blocks of my condo.  There&#8217;s something special about this group that even the people of London are starting to figure out.<\/li>\n<li><cite>Friends<\/cite>, Sirens&#8217; fourteen-part-harmony <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bartleby.com\/100\/\">Bartlett<\/a>-inspired madrigal-influenced impossible-to-sing-along singalong drinking song.<\/li>\n<li>Donna&#8217;s enigmatic statement about my having <q>lots of work<\/q> to do in the near future.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/LenniFan\/\"><cite>Lenni Jabour and The Third Floor<\/cite><\/a> were wonderful as always.  <cite>Gabe<\/cite>, which I <a href=\"\/blog\/archives\/2002\/09\/16\/do_you_have_to_dial_416_for_a_pretend_phone_call.html\"> praised before<\/a>, is still a favourite; I must pick up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maplemusic.com\/artists\/bir\/disc.asp\"><cite>Motor Motel Love Songs<\/cite><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maplemusic.com\/artists\/bir\/default.asp\">Jason Collett<\/a>&#8216;s recent CD featuring the song Lenni performs so wonderfully.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/LenniFan\/thirdfloor\/#alex\">Alex McMaster<\/a> said hi, somehow recognizing me from a recent e-mail conversation.<\/li>\n<li>Talking to my <cite>Lenni-friend<\/cite> Sarah in the cold outside <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cestwhat.com\/\">C&#8217;est What?<\/a> while waiting for the doors to open.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h4>The Bad<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The ridiculous speaker volume for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emmgryner.com\/\"><cite>Emm Gryner<\/cite><\/a>&#8216;s set at <cite>Call the Office<\/cite>.  Even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spinaltap.com\/\">Nigel Tufnel<\/a>&#8216;s amp only went to 11; Emm&#8217;s band&#8217;s must have been set to 27!  I couldn&#8217;t stand it; I almost left <em>during<\/em> her set, which I <strong>never<\/strong> do.  Wound up ditching in the break before <cite>Holly McNarland<\/cite> took the stage.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daynamanning.com\/\"><cite>Dayna Manning<\/cite><\/a>&#8216;s concert.  Actually, I&#8217;m sure her solo performance was fantastic, but I can&#8217;t say from personal experience because it was sold out.  Unfortunately I only discovered that rather salient fact after driving for an hour to Stratford; on a Saturday night in March at 8:00 there isn&#8217;t much left to do other than turn around and head home.<\/li>\n<li>Ignoring Sarah and friends at C&#8217;est What during Lenni&#8217;s performance and the two teachers I sat with during Sirens&#8217; Friday show, and dissing Alex (who&#8217;d only said about fifteen words to this blithering fanboy) when Lenni came out from backstage.
