To compact just the selected folder, you should now use the folder context menu command Compact this Folder.<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p>I&#8217;m a keyboard-shortcut user, and have gotten quite used to the <cite class=\"term\">buggy<\/cite> behaviour of hitting <kbd>Alt<\/kbd>&#8211;<kbd>F<\/kbd>&#8211;<kbd>F<\/kbd> to compact the current IMAP folder, so I&#8217;ve written <a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/2004\/03\/06\/compact.xpi\">my first Thunderbird extension<\/a> to work around the new behaviour.  (I&#8217;ve also entered <a href=\"http:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=235153\" title=\"IMAP make compact all folders start with currently selected folder\">bug 235153<\/a> to have the process changed so it&#8217;s more responsive to the user.)  The extension adds a new item to the <cite class=\"title\">File<\/cite> menu called <cite class=\"title\">Compact This Folder<\/cite> with accesskey <kbd>F<\/kbd>; it also renames <cite class=\"title\">Compact Folders<\/cite> to <cite class=\"title\">Compact All Folders<\/cite> and changes its accesskey to <kbd>A<\/kbd>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>A disclaimer: the extension <cite class=\"term\">Works For Me<\/cite> in Thunderbird 0.5+, but <cite class=\"term\">Your Mileage May Vary<\/cite>.  Please let me know if you have problems and I&#8217;ll try to fix them (but don&#8217;t hold your breath); similarly, if you have suggestions or improvements, please pass them along.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><ins datetime=\"2004-07-30T21:43:00-05:00\"><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/2004\/03\/06\/compact-0.2.xpi\">Version 0.2<\/a> now works in Thunderbird 0.7.  The accesskey for <cite class=\"title\">Compact All Folders<\/cite> is now <kbd>M<\/kbd> because <kbd>A<\/kbd> was used for the <cite class=\"title\">Attachments<\/cite> submenu.<\/ins><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><del datetime=\"2004-07-30T21:43:00-05:00\">I&#8217;ve removed the Creative Commons license as it&#8217;s not designed for software.  However, the removal is not retroactive: version 0.1 is still licensed under by-nc-sa.
