{"id":394,"date":"2004-08-25T18:09:36-04:00","date_gmt":"2004-08-26T02:09:36+00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/wordpress\/?p=394"},"modified":"2004-08-25T18:09:36-04:00","modified_gmt":"2004-08-26T02:09:36+00:00","slug":"no-more-firefox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/2004\/08\/25\/no-more-firefox\/","title":{"rendered":"No more&nbsp;Firefox"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'><p><del datetime=\"2004-09-09T21:46:00-05:00\">I will not&#8211;<em>can<\/em> not&#8211;promote the Firefox and Thunderbird projects by including their banners on this weblog until <a href=\"http:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=253722\">this removal<\/a> is overturned.<\/del> <ins datetime=\"2004-09-09T21:46:00-05:00\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=257859#c12\">The hasty, draconian decision has been overruled by Brendan Eich and Ben Goodger.<\/a><\/ins>  I&#8217;ve read the arguments against retaining the feature, and they&#8217;re far outweighed by the arguments for it&#8211;most overwhelmingly this one <em>from the feature developer<\/em> that was ignored by <cite class=\"name\">drivers<\/cite>:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=253722#c3\" title=\"fantasai\"><p>I am planning to fix all those bugs&#8230; for the 1.0 localization freeze (FF 0.10?).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>If <a href=\"http:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/archives\/2004\/06\/29\/disruptive-work-on-a-stable-branch\">buggy, untested new features<\/a> can be added at the last minute to a supposedly <cite class=\"term\">stablizing<\/cite> product, why can&#8217;t less-buggy, well-tested, <em>useful<\/em> features be retained?  <ins datetime=\"2004-08-25T19:55:00-05:00\"><a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.mozillazine.org\/asa\/archives\/006285.html\">Asa<\/a>: <q>it&#8217;s too late in the game to get decent feedback<\/q> is not a reason, it&#8217;s an excuse.<\/ins><\/p>\n\n<p>And a final bit of irony: in Mozilla <cite class=\"name\">Seamonkey<\/cite> 1.8&#8217;s latest alpha, <q cite=\"http:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=32372\">Users can now disable CSS via Use Style &gt; None or a global preference<\/q>&#8230; the very thing that&#8217;s been removed from Firefox.<\/p>\n\n<p><ins datetime=\"2004-08-25T23:59:00-05:00\">Daniel Glazman <a href=\"http:\/\/webperso.easyconnect.fr\/danielglazman\/weblog\/dotclear\/index.php?2004\/08\/25\/519-style-switchers-removal-2\">sums it up nicely<\/a>: <q>If [a list of 7 minor bugs] is accurate, the whole story of the removal of the Style Switcher is a real shame.<\/q><\/ins><\/p><\/div><div class=\"syndication-links\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I will not&#8211;can not&#8211;promote the Firefox and Thunderbird projects by including their banners on this weblog until this removal is overturned.
