A great weekend so far. One Hour Photo<\/a> was as creepy (and good) as was promised. The Sarnia airshow at Chris Hadfield<\/a> Airport (as viewed from the Wawanosh Wetlands and elsewhere) was interesting and loud, and the Snowbirds precision flying team were impressive in real life. The drive back to London with my new vacuum cleaner (who said life was all fun?) and home-baked goods (ok, it’s not that bad) was uneventful (just as I like it–I put myself into a deep ditch on the same route several months ago). Finally, just returned from seeing Kathryn Rose<\/a> at the Spriet Theatre in the first show of a seven-concert series put on by StudiO K<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

That last item I want to write more about. The performance was an odd experience–I was kind of ambivalent about the music during the first set, but realized about halfway through the intermission<\/em> that I’d really enjoyed it and couldn’t wait for the second half. By the end of the show I’d decided that Kathryn is a cross between Sarah McLachlan<\/a>, Eliza Dushku<\/a>, Salma Hayek<\/a>, and… well, I haven’t figured the rest out yet. She stands unique as<\/p>\n

  1. the only singer I’ve ever heard to use hyperventilation as a percussion instrument (it’s electronic on her sample track<\/a>, so you’ll just have to see her live<\/a>) and<\/li>\n
  2. the inventor of the term house porn<\/q> (referring to shows like Trading Spaces and magazines like House and Home), a phrase I’m going to steal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

    Tomorrow, of course<\/a>, is a field trip to Toronto to see Lenni Jabour<\/a> in what’s to be her last concert in Toronto (indeed, on the continent) for some time.<\/p><\/div>
