{"id":559,"date":"2005-12-03T22:51:40-05:00","date_gmt":"2005-12-04T03:51:40+00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/archives\/2005\/12\/03\/candidates"},"modified":"2005-12-03T23:10:05-05:00","modified_gmt":"2005-12-04T04:10:05+00:00","slug":"candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/2005\/12\/03\/candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'><p>CBC&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canadavotes\/candidatesridings\/index.html\">list of ridings and candidates<\/a> is already behind, at least for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canadavotes\/riding\/150\/\">my riding<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canadavotes\/riding\/149\/\">one of those adjacent<\/a>.  One is somewhat understandable&#8212;UWO student <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ndp.ca\/page\/213\/welcome\">Stephen Maynard<\/a> just won the NDP nomination on Wednesday&#8212;but Liberal nominee <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberal.ca\/bio_e.aspx?id=35042&amp;type=can\">Glen Pearson<\/a> was acclaimed almost a full week ago, and was pretty much a given for a week previous to that.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>But that&#8217;s nothing compared to the other national news media sites.  I can&#8217;t even find election coverage on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/\">CanWest Global&#8217;s canada.com site<\/a> (which features the purported <cite class=\"title\"><em>National<\/em> Post<\/cite>), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/\"><cite class=\"name\">The Globe and Mail<\/cite><\/a> has an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/decision2006\">election section<\/a> but doesn&#8217;t have a list of candidates, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctv.ca\/mini\/election2006\/\">CTV&#8217;s election mini-site<\/a> doesn&#8217;t appear to have a list either.  (None of the sites&#8217; search engines turn up hits for Maynard or Pearson either.)  The local paper fares better, as one might hope: it had Pearson in its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lfpress.ca\/photos\/A31.pdf\">map of regional nominees<\/a>, published the day after the writ dropped, and had a <a href=\"http:\/\/lfpress.ca\/newsstand\/News\/National\/2005\/11\/29\/1328258-sun.html\">brief mention<\/a> of Maynard&#8217;s nomination on Wednesday.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"syndication-links\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"CBC&#8217;s list of ridings and candidates is already behind, at least for my riding and one of those adjacent.
