Despite being one of the funniest writers around, he comes across as serious and thoughtful, which is the impression I&#8217;ve always had of him through other material, particularly <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Last_Chance_to_See\"><cite class=\"title\">Last Chance to See<\/cite><\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>It&#8217;s quite a departure from the <q>interview<\/q> that kicks off CBC&#8217;s new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/podcasting\/index.html?newsandcurrent#rewind\"><cite class=\"title\">Rewind<\/cite> podcast<\/a>.  Barbara Frum&#8217;s valiant attempt to interview one of Charles Manson&#8217;s followers left me disturbed and more than a little shaken, and podcast host Michael Enright&#8217;s tag didn&#8217;t do much to assuage that feeling.  (Producer (I think) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gorbould.com\/\">Paul Gorbould<\/a> has an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gorbould.com\/blog\/index.php\/2007\/04\/i-hear-dead-people\/\">alternative version<\/a> on his blog, as well as a bit more information on the podcast and the CBC Archives.)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Barbara Frum died of leukemia fifteen years ago last week, and Adams died of a heart attack in 2001.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"syndication-links\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Just finished reading the first two parts of a 1978 interview with Douglas Adams and listening to a segment of the source material.
