{"id":753,"date":"2007-05-05T22:10:26-04:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-06T02:10:26+00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/2007\/05\/05\/by-the-power-of-greyskull\/"},"modified":"2007-05-05T22:10:26-04:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-06T02:10:26+00:00","slug":"by-the-power-of-greyskull","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterjanes.ca\/blog\/2007\/05\/05\/by-the-power-of-greyskull\/","title":{"rendered":"By the power of&nbsp;Greyskull!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'><p><cite class=\"term\">Disappointed<\/cite> is a mild word for my reaction to <cite class=\"title\">Spider-Man 3<\/cite>; I thought it was bad in more ways than I feel like enumerating fully, but some include character cheats, lousy timing, and horrendous attempts at what I can only presume to be comedy.  Even Stan Lee and Bruce Campbell&#8217;s cameos fell completely flat, the latter doing a bad riff on <cite class=\"title\">The Pink Panther<\/cite>&#8216;s Jacques Clouseau.  There were a couple of higher points, but overall it gets a two-star <q>meh<\/q>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>(Matt&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/kimota94.blogspot.com\/2007\/05\/inevitable-spider-man-3-review.html\">a <em>lot<\/em> more forgiving than I am<\/a>.)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Fortunately, <cite class=\"title\">Hot Fuzz<\/cite> made up for all of Spidey&#8217;s shortcomings.  Although I&#8217;ve never been a fan of zombie movies I thought <cite class=\"title\">Shaun of the Dead<\/cite> was brilliant, and <cite class=\"title\"><abbr title=\"Hot Fuzz\">HF<\/abbr><\/cite> is almost its equal in the buddy-cop film genre.  Simon Pegg&#8217;s parodic formula starts to show a bit, though&#8212;for example, he substitutes <cite class=\"title\">He-Man<\/cite> references for Shaun&#8217;s <cite class=\"title\">Star Wars<\/cite> lines&#8212;and I think a third along the same lines might be pushing it a bit.
