  1. That’s an interesting quote. I read it a completely different way than it was intended. Rather than his intent (as I perceive it) of “To have something popular doesn’t mean it has to be dumb”, I read it somewhat backwards, as in “Everything that is popular is not necessarily dumb”.

    It’s a fine line between the two, but I’ve found a number of people I’ve talked to over the past few months and a number of off-handed comments in the media (like CBC Radio) have had an elitist attitude that if “the masses” like it, it must be dumb. This is definitely true in many cases (American Idol), but one should not make one’s mind up before experiencing a subject. I’ve made my decision on American Idol after actually sitting through several full episodes, but I can understand it’s appeal… even to some incredibly intelligent people.
