What a difference a year makes

At this time last year:

  • the surname “Palin” referred to Michael, world traveller and former Python.
  • the price of a barrel of oil had never hit $100… on the way up or down.
  • no one knew Fidel Castro had a brother.
  • the Large Hadron Collider had not yet destroyed the world.
  • the Conservative party didn’t believe in climate change.
Well, some things have changed….

  1. Fidel Castro has a brother!?

    Wait.. I *did* know that.

@Ed: The world was, indeed, destroyed. Don’t you remember? I can’t believe you don’t remember when the Earth blew up! And we all escaped to this new planet on a giant space ark. And the government decided not to tell the stupider people because they might… oh! Nevermind.*

(*I blatently stole this from Steve Martin. It’s 30(ish) years old and it *still* works!)

  2. Actually, I knew about Raoul! I knew that Fidel and Raoul really wanted to play baseball, but then turned to politics after their frustration with the Majors. But then I studied history. And let’s face it, baseball history is the most important! NOT!! ha ha!!

  3. I hope that in another year’s time that Michael is the sole "owner" of the Palin name in my thoughts – I can hope right?
